What a Checkup Actually Does for You

You See Everything We See
Every checkup includes intraoral photos and digital imaging so you can see exactly what Dr. Cho sees. When patients understand what's happening in their own mouth, they make better decisions about their care. We show you the evidence and let you lead the conversation.
Caught Early, Fixed Simply
The biggest advantage of a routine checkup isn't the cleaning. It's the early detection. Issues like cavities, gum disease, and bone loss are significantly easier and less expensive to treat in their earliest stages. Dr. Cho's mentor put it plainly: fix the small problem while it's still small. That principle drives every exam we perform.

No Pressure on Treatment
If something needs attention, Dr. Cho walks you through your options clearly and honestly. He presents the best clinical option first, explains the tradeoffs, and lets you set the pace. You will never leave a checkup feeling pushed into a decision you weren't ready to make.
We Take Your Insurance
Keep Your Teeth Healthy Between Visits
What you do at home matters just as much as what we do in the chair:
- Brush twice daily with a fluoride toothpaste
- Floss at least once a day
- Limit sugary and acidic foods and drinks
- Wear a night guard if you grind your teeth
- Contact us between visits if you notice sensitivity, pain, or anything that feels different

How Often Should You See the Dentist?
Twice a year works for most patients. You may need more frequent visits if you:
- Have a history of gum disease or periodontal treatment
- Are prone to cavities or heavy tartar buildup
- Have diabetes or other conditions that affect oral health
- Haven't seen a dentist in several years
Not sure where you fall? We'll assess your situation at your first visit and recommend a schedule that fits.

What to Expect During Your Checkup
Check-In
You will be greeted by name when you arrive. Check-in is quick and wait times are short. If it's your first visit, a team member will walk you through your new patient forms before you're brought back.
Intraoral Scan & Photography
Every new patient receives a full intraoral scan and high-resolution photographs of their teeth and gums. These images give Dr. Cho a detailed baseline of your oral health and allow you to see exactly what he sees. For returning patients, comparing images over time is one of the most effective ways to catch problems early.
Teeth Cleaning
Your hygienist removes plaque and tartar buildup from the surfaces of your teeth and along the gumline. Even patients who brush and floss consistently benefit from a professional cleaning, as some areas of the mouth are difficult to reach on your own.
Digital X-Rays
Digital X-rays reveal what's happening between and beneath your teeth that isn't visible to the naked eye. Digital technology means less radiation exposure than traditional film and instant images, which you can review with Dr. Cho on the spot.
Dental Exam
Dr. Cho examines your teeth, gums, bite, and jaw for signs of decay, gum disease, wear, cracking, and bite issues. Intraoral cameras and AI-assisted imaging document findings clearly, so everything can be explained before any treatment is recommended.
Oral Cancer Screening
Every checkup includes a brief visual screening for unusual spots, sores, or tissue changes in and around your mouth. It takes only a few minutes and is included at every visit.
Review of Findings
Dr. Cho walks you through what he found, shows you the images, and answers your questions. Nothing is rushed, and nothing moves forward without your full understanding.
Treatment Planning & Next Steps
If treatment is recommended, Dr. Cho presents options one at a time, starting with the best clinical approach and working through alternatives based on your comfort level, timeline, and budget. You set the pace.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I schedule a checkup?
Book online at any time or call us to speak to a team member. We are open Monday through Thursday.
What is an oral cancer screening?
A brief visual check for signs of abnormal tissue in and around your mouth. It is included at every checkup, takes only a few minutes, and can identify changes that are far easier to treat when caught early.
Do I need X-rays at every visit?
Not necessarily. Frequency depends on your health history and risk factors. Dr. Cho recommends X-rays only when they provide clinical value, and digital technology keeps radiation exposure as low as possible.
Can children be seen at New Life Dental?
Yes. We see patients from infancy through adulthood. We recommend scheduling a child's first visit by their first birthday or when the first tooth appears.
What happens if a problem is found during my checkup?
Dr. Cho will explain what he found, show you the images, and walk you through your options before any decisions are made. Nothing moves forward without your understanding and consent.
What is the difference between a cleaning and a deep cleaning?
A routine cleaning removes buildup above and just below the gumline. A deep cleaning addresses buildup further below the gumline and is recommended for patients with gum disease. Dr. Cho will let you know which applies to your situation during your exam.
Does insurance cover checkups?
Most PPO dental plans cover preventive care at 100 percent. We accept 14 major PPO plans and verify your benefits before your appointment. For patients without insurance, our in-house membership plan covers two cleanings and exams per year starting at $399.
What if I haven't been to the dentist in years?
There's no judgment here. Dr. Cho will do a thorough exam, explain what he finds, and build a plan that addresses your needs at a pace that works for you.
Do checkups hurt?
A routine cleaning and exam should not be painful. If you experience sensitivity, let your hygienist know and we'll adjust. Patients with significant anxiety can ask about sedation options before their visit.
How long does a routine checkup take?
New patients should plan for 60 to 90 minutes. Returning patients typically finish in 45 to 60 minutes, depending on whether X-rays are taken.
