Understanding Dental Implants

Placed and Restored by a Fellowship-Trained Specialist
Dr. Cho holds two of the most respected fellowships in implant dentistry: Fellow of the American Academy of Implant Prosthodontics (FAAIP) and Fellow of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists (FICOI). You are not being referred out for implant care. Dr. Cho places and restores implants here, start to finish, with a level of specialized training most general dentists don't have.
Precision Before the First Incision
Dr. Cho uses CBCT 3D imaging to map your jawbone and plan placement before treatment begins. Computer-guided surgical planning and 3D-printed surgical guides, produced in our on-site digital lab, allow for accurate, efficient implant placement and more predictable outcomes.

Everything Built In-House
Dr. Cho designs and fabricates your crown and prosthetic components in our on-site digital lab. No outside lab, no unnecessary delays. This means tighter quality control, faster turnaround, and fewer appointments to reach your final result.

When Implants Make Sense
Implants may be the right solution if you have:
- One or more missing teeth affecting how you eat or speak
- A tooth too damaged to save
- Dentures that slip or limit what you can eat
- Jawbone loss from a long-term missing tooth
- A tooth requiring extraction that needs a permanent replacement

Are You a Candidate?
Most healthy adults qualify. You are likely a strong candidate if you:
- Have adequate bone density or are a candidate for grafting
- Have healthy gums with no active periodontal disease
- Are a non-smoker or willing to stop during healing
- Are committed to regular checkups and good oral hygiene
Not sure? Dr. Cho will evaluate your bone structure and gum health during your consultation and give you a straight answer.

Types of Implants We Offer
Single Tooth Implant
The most common implant type and the gold standard for single-tooth replacement. A titanium post is placed into the jawbone and topped with a custom crown, giving you a permanent, natural-feeling tooth that stands on its own and requires no special maintenance.
All-on-4 Implants
A full-arch restoration supported by four strategically placed implants. If you are dealing with significant tooth loss or failing teeth, All-on-4 gives you a permanent, fixed set of teeth in place of traditional dentures. No slipping, no adhesives, no compromising on what you eat.
All-on-X Implants
A customized variation of All-on-4 that uses additional implants for greater stability when the situation calls for it. Dr. Cho tailors the number and placement of implants to your bone structure and restoration needs, then places and restores the entire case in-house, including the prosthetic components fabricated in our on-site digital lab.
Fixed Implant Dentures
Permanently anchored to implants so they never come out. Fixed dentures look and function significantly closer to natural teeth than traditional removable options, stimulate the jawbone to slow bone loss, and eliminate the maintenance and discomfort that comes with conventional dentures.
Not sure which option fits your situation? Dr. Cho will evaluate your bone structure, the extent of tooth loss, and your goals during your consultation and give you a clear, honest recommendation.
What to Expect When You Get Dental Implants
Consultation and Imaging
Dr. Cho performs a comprehensive exam with CBCT imaging to evaluate bone volume and map the treatment area. He explains your options and builds a plan around your situation. If bone grafting is needed first, that is discussed and planned at this stage.
Bone Grafting (If Needed)
If bone volume is insufficient, Dr. Cho performs ridge preservation, ridge augmentation, or a sinus lift to rebuild the foundation before placement. He will outline the timeline clearly during your consultation.
Implant Placement
Using a 3D-printed surgical guide from our on-site lab, Dr. Cho places the implant post with precision. Local anesthesia is used throughout, and oral sedation is available. Most patients find the procedure far more manageable than they expected.
Healing
The implant bonds with the surrounding bone over several months. Dr. Cho monitors your healing at follow-up visits and confirms when you are ready for the final step.
Crown Placement
Dr. Cho designs and places your custom crown in-house, matched to the shape and shade of your surrounding teeth. You leave with a complete, permanent tooth.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get started?
Schedule a consultation online or call our office. Dr. Cho will perform a thorough evaluation, review your imaging, and give you a clear picture of your options, timeline, and investment before any decisions are made.
Does insurance cover dental implants?
Coverage for implants varies widely by plan. Some PPO plans cover a portion of the procedure. Our team will verify your benefits before treatment and walk you through your out-of-pocket costs. Financing options including CareCredit, Alphaeon Credit, and Cherry are available to make treatment more accessible.
What is the difference between a dental implant and a bridge?
A dental bridge fills a gap by anchoring a false tooth to the crowns placed on the two teeth on either side of the gap. This requires those healthy teeth to be filed down to support the bridge. An implant stands independently, preserves the surrounding teeth, and stimulates the jawbone to prevent bone loss. For most patients, an implant is the superior long-term solution.
Can I get an implant if I smoke?
Smoking significantly increases the risk of implant failure by interfering with the healing process. Dr. Cho will discuss your situation honestly during your consultation. Patients who are willing to stop smoking during the healing period may still be candidates.
How do I care for a dental implant?
You care for an implant the same way you care for a natural tooth. Brush twice daily, floss regularly, and attend routine checkups. There are no special adhesives or removal routines. The implant functions and is maintained just like the rest of your teeth.
What if I don't have enough bone for an implant?
Many patients who have experienced bone loss are still candidates for implants after a bone grafting procedure. Dr. Cho offers ridge preservation, ridge augmentation, and sinus lift procedures to rebuild bone volume when needed.
Am I too old for dental implants?
There is no upper age limit for dental implants. What matters is your overall health, bone density, and gum condition. Dr. Cho evaluates each patient individually and will give you an honest assessment of whether implants are a viable option for you.
How long does the entire implant process take?
The timeline varies depending on your situation. A straightforward single implant from placement to final crown typically takes three to six months. If bone grafting is required first, the process takes longer. Dr. Cho will give you a realistic timeline during your consultation.
Is the implant procedure painful?
Most patients are surprised by how manageable the procedure is. Local anesthesia is used throughout, and oral sedation is available for patients with anxiety or those who want to be more relaxed during treatment. Post-procedure discomfort is typically mild and manageable with over-the-counter pain relief.
How long do dental implants last?
With proper care and regular checkups, dental implants can last a lifetime. The crown attached to the implant may need to be replaced after 15 to 25 years depending on wear, but the implant post itself is designed to be a permanent solution.
