Before we start your cleaning, we will provide an initial dental exam and consultation. At this time, you can bring up any concerns you may have, and we will also check your records to see if you are due for x-rays. If there are any unusual concerns, our dentist may come in to examine your teeth before the cleaning. However, you will typically meet with our dentist after the cleaning procedure.

First, our dental hygienist will use a scaler for your teeth, which helps remove plaque and tartar.

Second, our dental hygienist will use an electronic toothbrush and a slightly abrasive toothpaste to polish your teeth. You will be able to rinse your mouth after each tooth is brushed individually. Third, our dental hygienist will floss your teeth with regular dental floss. This is sometimes the final step before you see our dentist. However, you may also need fluoride treatment, which we will discuss with you at your appointment. This is less common in our adult patients and more common for pediatric patients, but it can be required at any age.

To finish your appointment, our dentist will come in and examine your teeth. If any plaque or tartar is still present, our dentist will use a scaler once again. We will also review your x-rays and talk to you about any concerns that came up during the procedure. At this point, we can talk about follow-up treatment.
